Dr. Arthur is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is Chair of the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Substance Use Disorder and Diversion Special Interest Group. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

His main research interest is in the area of pain and opioid utilization. His primary focus is on safe opioid use and the potential issues associated with its inappropriate use in the cancer patient population. He is the author of several publications highlighting the issue of aberrant opioid use among cancer patients and has described strategies to effectively address this issue. He is also the author of over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters in palliative care and symptom management. He is the series Co-Editor of ‘Cancer Care and the Opioid Crisis’ in The Oncologist and a reviewer for multiple palliative/ supportive care journals.
