Dr. Delgado Guay is originally from Guatemala in Central America. He completed his Medical School at Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City. Dr. Delgado Guay completed his Internal Medicine training at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago IL. After that, he completed a Geriatrics Medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Boston MA. After this fellowship also he completed a clinical and research fellowship in Symptom Control and Palliative Care at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston TX.

Currently, Dr. Delgado Guay is an Associate Professor of the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation, and Integrative Medicine at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Currently, Dr. Delgado Guay is the chair of the Spirituality Commission of the Association Latino Americana de Cuidado Paliativo and the past chair of the Humanities and Spirituality SIG of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). Also, he is the current chair-elect of Latino Professionals, patients, and families in the HPC of the AAHPM.

He provides High-Quality Palliative Care services to patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers in this institution. His main interests are spirituality and religiosity and coping strategies in these populations, also interested in the education processes in palliative care and program development. His main research interests include Symptom distress in advanced cancer patients including physical, and psychosocial symptoms and spirituality/religiosity and spiritual distress. Other interests include the management of older patients with cancer and topics related to aging and cancer such as frailty, nutrition, cognitive impairment, and spiritual distress.
