Top reviewers for Annals of Palliative Medicine for 2021
As part of this issue of Annals of Palliative Medicine, we are honored to take the time to acknowledge all of those who have served in the peer review process for the journal.
Peer review is perhaps the most fundamental aspect of publishing in respected medical journals, and it helps to ensure the integrity and quality of the work being published. Specific to Annals of Palliative Medicine, those volunteers who have reviewed articles have included leading experts in their palliative medicine fields across all multidisciplinary aspects, including oncology, psychology, surgery, nursing, public health, education, nutrition, sociology, ethics, and policy (1). These reviewers have served to enhance the articles ultimately accepted for publication, which has allowed readers and clinicians to learn from the top articles in our field. These reviewers have also served as gatekeepers of lesser quality article, which has ensured high standards for acceptance for articles in Annals of Palliative Medicine.
The enhanced review process was one of the primary improvements for Annals of Palliative Medicine in recent years (2), with the journal transitioning to a more transparent peer review process to promote increased research integrity and reproducibility and allow readers to gain more insights into the merits of a study by being able to see the information on which the editorial office bases its decisions to publish papers, as well as partnering with Publons to further increase the recognition of the contributions of our expert peer reviewers and increase engagement by reviewers.
Below is the list of the top 10 Annals of Palliative Medicine reviewers for 2021 (Table 1). Each of these reviewers accepted and completed assignments of multiple articles, and they provided high quality reviews that were completed in a timely manner.
