Each year, the Annals of Palliative Medicine editors review the most cited and most downloaded articles from the previous year (1).

While many readers are familiar that citations of an article determine the impact factor of a journal, downloads are a similarly important metric. Article downloads are a leading indicator of interest in a particular subject, which informs the Annals of Palliative Medicine editorial office of the topics in which our readership are most enthusiastic. As citations and downloads are highly correlated (2), we have opted to emphasize the interests of our readership and the articles of most interest to them, and we are happy to detail the top 10 most downloaded articles published in Annals of Palliative Medicine from 2023 (Table 1).
