Expectations as outcome of effectiveness for patients with metastatic lung cancer
Abstract
In patients that presented advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), palliative treatments, as chemotherapy and radiation therapy (RT), play a central role to manage symptoms, prolong life, and improve quality of life (QoL). Although these treatments are not curative, our patients deserve different expectations regarding their effectiveness based on different variables, as communication skills, family support and psychological status. Expectations of effectiveness are related to communications between patients and physician that is the corner stone of “relationship” between patients and disease. In this article, we explore this interesting issue analysing the most interesting criticism.
